Life
My name is Roman Šperka, doc. RNDr. Ing., Ph.D. I was born in 1977 in Valašské Meziříčí (Czech Republic). We had been living in Čadca (Slovakia) some time after my birth with my parents. I began to start the basic school in Čadca in 1984. We moved to a small village Staškov, časť Polgrúň (Slovakia) in 1986 not far away from Čadca. I was studying at Gymnasium in Turzovka (Slovakia) during 1992-1996. I have started to make my own business after the graduation in the field of computer accessories retailing, software development (economic software, cash register systems, etc.) with the use of Delphi and Visual FoxPro development tools. I have started a construction company StavoTech later on.
I decided to extend my education in 2004 and soon after that I began to study at Silesian University in Opava, School of Business Administration (SU SBA) in Karviná (Czech Republic) in a life-long form of study. I have changed several forms of study in that time and after 6 years I have graduated as Engineer of economics (Ing.) in a System Engineering and Informatics study programme, specialization Managerial Informatics in 2010. Afterwards, I decided to continue studying in a doctoral degree during 2010-2013. I took the doctoral study programme Economics and Management, field of study Business Economics and Management in Karvina on the daily basis at Department of Informatics. I have passed the state doctoral exam in 2012 and I have defended my dissertation titled "The Usability of Multi-agent Systems for Business Process Modeling" in 2013 with Ph.D. title. I have successfully defended habilitation thesis at SU SBA in March 2017 titled "Information support of business process management on the operational level" and I have presented a habilitation presentation in front of scientific board on the "Simulation of business processes" topic. I became a docent (associate professor) in the field of Business economics and management from April 1, 2017.
Parallely, I have started studying masters degree in Informatics, specialization Information Systems at University of Ostrava, Faculty of Sciences in Ostrava (Czech Republic) in 2008 in a distant form of study. I have graduated at this faculty as a Magister of Sciences (Mgr.) in 2011. Finally, I was enrolled into rigorosa process at the Constantine the Philosopher University in Nitra, Faculty of Natural Sciences (Slovakia) in 2012 in Applied Informatics field of study. I have defended my rigorosa thesis titled "Multi-agent Simulation of Financial Markets" in 2013 with Doctor of natural sciences (RNDr.) title.
I was a member of Academic senate of Silesian University in Opava and Academic senate of SU SBA in Karvina concurrently during 2010-2013 as a student. I was a member of the employee section of Academic senate of Silesian University in Opava during 2013-2016. I was working as an Assistant at Department of Informatics, SU SBA since 2012. I have been working at the Department of Business Economics and Management as a Head of Department and associate professor since September 1, 2015. I was acting as a Vice-dean for International Relations at SU SBA during 2016-2023. With effect on March 1, 2023 I became a dean of SU SBA. I was a Head of Business Economics and Management studying program in Bachelor and Master degrees during 2020-2024. I am a Head of Economics and Management studying program in Bachelor and Master degrees since 2021. Both degrees are taught in Czech and English language.
I am speaking English and German fluently. My research area covers business economics and applied informatics. Research methods I am using are mainly modelling, analysis, design, simulation and process mining. I have been publishing research results extensively in Czech Republic and abroad.
